WBT Rules!

Just a thought for the day... I still need to get the hand gestures down for the Rules.
I am loving incorporating a little bit of the Whole Brain Teaching method this year! Thanks to whoever made up the posters since I just had to click to print these wonderful ones! If I can find where I got them, I will post a link! Only a couple more weeks to get my room finished, before I meet my new students! Excited and scared for the beginnning of the year as always!

Have a great day!

Workin' on the Room...Center Time

I've been trying to think of new ideas for center areas in my room and came up with this one. Last year I used the table for the students in an art center, but I am going to combine art and writing into one center so I don't have to have so many sets of supplies out. Should be easier to keep track of and add to. Excited about this! I have a couple extra chairs and lots of pillows I'm gonna throw into my library center, so I didn't feel bad about relocating the bean bags that used to reside in the library area. :) Under the table I'll store my Books/CDs and the listening center forms I found on another website for the students to use to give feedback on the stories they have listened to.

Meanwhile, this posterboard will be part of the art/writing center through September then I will change it out for October and so on. Our theme this year for the school in "Farm" so I just put up pictures of farm animals and their names. Excuse the sloppiness of it, since I just slapped it together in a few minutes time. If you have any suggestions on how you use your listening and writing centers, I'd be glad to hear them!

Birthday Balloons and a Classroom Visit!

I went to school yesterday and worked for about another 5 hours! Yikes! I didn't realize how much I needed to get done still! Back to School is fast approaching and I don't know where the time went! In one way I'm ready for routine but am also loving my R&R too. Classroom pics will be coming soon, but I forgot my camera and don't want to rely on the ole iPhone pics. They tend to turn out grainy. I also have a fabulous behavior idea I stole  borrowed from another teacher. ;) Stay tuned...

My newest project was the birthday balloons that I have seen all over Pinterest lately. I hate the pencils that don't sharpen well so this was genius and easy!

Thanks to http://onceuponafirstgradeadventure.blogspot.com/ for this fabulous freebie! Sorry if the picture is a little cut off, but it was the best I could get uploaded for some reason. They look super cute in my classroom already! I wonder how many other teachers will end up making them, as we tend to peek in others rooms to see what they are doing! ;)

Thanks for visiting!

New Beginnings and Pinteresting!

Hi! This is my first blog and post ever (I'm Kayla) and you will meet my bestest teacher friend (Jill) soon! I'm hoping to get the hang of this soon as I have been inspired by so many wonderful blogs in the past few months. Summer here is flying by and I have been working in my classroom about once every other week since school has been out. Yes, I am a classroom addict! I am also loving the fact that my room was the first cleaned so I have been blessed to have an entire summer to get it just right! I love to get in and organize things, and my fellow teachers can attest to the fact that I am always moving things around! I teach Kindergarten and am always looking for ways to make my classroom run more efficient. I love labels on things! They make me smile!

I have been inspired by Pinterest this summer and have made several items for my classroom.

The first I made was the teacher toolbox. It was super easy and only took me one evening and would have been easier had I thought to bring home my paper trimmer :( I love owls as you can tell from the picture and have tried to incorporate as much of it in my classroom as it makes me happy :)

My next project was a new box top container as the one from last year is being repurposed for something else. I wish I had a picture to show how much improved this one is although it is rather hastily put together! I like that the kids are going to be able to slip them into the top, so it gives them a little more incentive to bring them in from home!
